Simplicity AI :: automation intelligence - test measurement control and automation

NIDAYS 2008

Welcome to the NIDays 2008 page, which provides information about the demonstrations and presentations by Simplicity AI at the event, allowing attendees and non-attendees to learn more about services that can be provided.

Mixed Signal Test Platform Presentation

As part of a presentation on hybrid test systems, Phil Rawlings discussed the software architecture design that Simplicity AI used for a mixed signal aerospace test rig. A range of PXI and LXI instrumentation from several vendors such as National Instruments, Agilent and GE was built into a single 19 inch rack unit by Peak Group, with the test software architecture provided by Simplicity AI.

Simplicity AI utilized National Instruments TestStand and LabVIEW to provide a highly tailored test system software architecture, which gives test engineers a simple configuration based toolkit for building automated test sequences. Phil explained how IVI software drivers played a key role in providing a flexible software architecture not tied to particular communication buses and specific instrument vendors, protecting the test rig from future obsolescence

Video Assisted Build Station Demonstration

The computer driven video assisted build station allows production line operators to build up products with ease, by following on-screen videos and text instructions. Component picking is simplified by using a pick-to-light system, which indicates which bin an item is located in via an LED and also detects when it has been has been picked by the operator via an infra-red beam detector. As component bins get emptied the operator indicates this to the software by scanning the barcode on the empty item, which alerts the line supervisor via a traffic light system. At the end of a product build a barcode label in generated to allow identification and tracking of the completed unit.

Automated Test Station Demonstration

After production units are completed, they are brought to the automated test station for functional testing. The system utilizes PXI modular instruments and automated switching to form a flexible test hardware platform capable of testing multiple products, which is controlled by a customised TestStand and LabVIEW based software program.
